Preparation · PRACTICAL GUIDE
Your first 24 hours in Shanghai
In this guide
You do not need to solve your whole trip on arrival. Get connected, reach your accommodation, eat, and make tomorrow's first journey easy.
Focus on data, payment, check-in and accommodation registration. Sightseeing can wait until you have rested.
At the airport
- Confirm your airport code and terminal.
- Get your data connection working and save your accommodation address.
- Choose your transfer using the current service information.
- Keep payment backup and your passport accessible.
At your accommodation
Confirm the check-in and registration arrangements with reception or your host. For a non-hotel stay, official guidance requires registration within 24 hours; ask the host for assistance immediately rather than waiting until the deadline.
Charge your phone, message someone you trust and save the accommodation address offline. Locate a nearby place for a simple meal and test your payment method with a small ordinary purchase.
Before going out tomorrow
Plan your first destination, the station exit and the way back. If you are arriving for university, check when and where you must report and take the documents requested by the international office.
Write down any unresolved practical question, check the editorial FAQs and consult the relevant provider or official source. Use the linked official sources for entry rules and other requirements.
Save essential numbers
Official emergency numbers: police 110, fire 119, ambulance 120. Keep your accommodation and insurer's contact details separately. If you need urgent help, contact the appropriate local service; this website is not monitored for emergencies.
