Start with your daily destination

For a first sightseeing visit, compare options around People's Square or Nanjing Road for access to central attractions. Jing'an and Xuhui may suit a trip focused on neighborhood walks and cafés. Lujiazui or another Pudong location may be more practical if your meetings are on that side of the river.

Ask these questions before booking

1. Can the property check you in with your passport on your arrival date?
2. What is the full address in Chinese and the closest convenient metro exit?
3. Is late check-in available, and is there a reachable reception contact?
4. What are the cancellation terms, deposit and full price?
5. How will your accommodation registration be handled?

Understand accommodation registration

Hotels handle guest registration. If you stay outside a hotel, the official Shanghai guidance says you or your host must register within 24 hours of arrival at that accommodation. Ask your host to arrange this with you, using the official process; it also applies to visa-exempt visitors.

Use the official service or local police guidance for documents and the current process. Do not upload your passport to this website or include it in a public question.

Private rentals: check before transferring money

Ask for the written terms, landlord or agent identity, a viewing and a clear explanation of rent, deposits and fees. If arranging a long stay from abroad, a short initial stay can give you time to inspect a property. We do not verify listings, broker rentals or hold deposits.
